GEORGE WALKER AWARDS

GEORGE WALKER AWARDS - TO BE AWARDED IN 2008

The George Walker Awards honor the memory of Professor George Walker, FRS, who was born on March 2, 1926 and died on January 17, 2005. Professor Walker's discoveries pioneered a modern quantitative approach to physical volcanology and greatly accelerated understanding of volcanic processes. The awards are supported by the George Walker Fund. The awards recognize the achievements of two outstanding recent graduates in the fields of research encompassed by IAVCEI. One of the awards recognizes a recent graduate whose achievements in volcanology involved operating in difficult circumstances. The awards are open to IAVCEI members who received their Ph.D. two years before the previous deadline (this time is after December 2002). The winners will receive a certificate, a cash award, free registration at the General Assembly where the award will be made and an invitation to deliver a lecture at that General Assembly.
